Hanging of the Greens

Some of my favorite things about bringing Christmas cheer to any space are the hanging of the greens and creating the aroma of Christmas.

It’s all about evoking the senses when decorating and Christmas is just so perfect to capture all those senses. You can capture it through the textures of the greens, bringing the outdoors in through the wonderful sights of the pines, balsams and firs. Fresh greens also captures the truest aromas of Christmas but can also be created through scented candles. My go to for the purest form of aromas is Antique Candle Co.

This year I went a little overboard with all the greens in the kitchen and kept it a pretty muted color palette (with just a little pop of red) but it felt like I was on the scene of one of my favorite Christmas movies. You know the ones, where you have to pause the movie just to look at all the details in the background. Or am I the only one who does that?! I’ve been doing that since I was a child. I was always more interested in the decor of the movie than the actual movie itself. Speaking of Christmas movies, Home Alone is one of my ALL time favorite movies, I could watch it over and over but did you know that in Kevin’s home EVERYTHING is decorated red and green?! Yes, it’s true, from the wallpaper to the bedding to the green tile in the kitchen and every single piece of decor in the kitchen is either red or green! Even all the rugs in the home! Next time you watch the movie notice all the festive decor! I love it!

Here is a look back to our kitchen from 2018, where I decorated with more fruits, like pomegranates, oranges, and lemons. Plus I started our annual tradition of orange drying to use as garlands and adding little festive around our home, which always smells delicious.
