5 Simple Ways To Transition Your Decor To Fall
We finally had our first cool front last week here in Texas. It usually takes a while for it to feel like autumn in the south so I start adding fall touches long before the weather cues in.
Since fall brings me all kinds of cozy feelings like delicious baked pumpkin goods, warm spicy candles, and our favorite chili and soups, I start transitioning here in my kitchen first.
So I welcome you in and let me show you how you can transition your kitchen to feel like the coziness of fall in just 5 simple ways (even without the use of pumpkins).
When I am transitioning to fall, I first keep in mind that it’s a transition. The very meaning of transition means a process. That means let your decorating evolve through a process, as you are inspired, let it trickle throughout your home. It does not have to happen all at once. For me, it never happens all at once. I start slowly and let it organically evolve into a space that feels curated through the process.
Next, I think of the warmth and comfort that I want to feel. Almost like being nestled in my luxurious fur blanket or wrapped in a cozy cable knit sweater or even the feelings I get sipping hot cocoa topped with melted marshmallows (our favorite by the way). All that mixed in one goes into my design transition to fall.
Here are 5 ways you can transition your home to fall by incorporating warmth into your home.
Wood tones
One of my top personal choices of adding warmth to any design is through wood tones. To me it creates this rustic, warmth of a palette to accessorize with. Here in the kitchen, I love layering old breadboards and especially the most asked about wood covering that covers my stovetop.
Textures
Textures soften up the room and create a layer of depth. I loving using baskets to create texture, like the ones on my top shelf in the cabinets.
Inviting Glow
For a cozy ambiance, I use candles. Not only does the scent create inviting feelings for me but the ultimate glow that flickers through the room. Most of my favorite candles come from Antique Candle Co. Not only does their fragrance fill the room, but it’s soy based so it burns very clean. I even bring in the battery-operated candles too for places that I’m not monitoring. I also use the battery operated twinkle lights but that will be for a later transition when we are further along in the seasons.
Decorating with warm colors
Color is a powerful tool that can shift the atmosphere. It’s an easy change. Warm colors can be found in browns, rich gold tones, mustards and I love to use greens ( as always.) You will notice lots of greens, mustards and brown all throughout my kitchen.
Bringing in something vintage
Mixing the old with the new brings an added texture that feels worn -in and storied. I love it because it adds character to the space, the more weathered the better. I use lots of vintage wood crates and old mixing bowls, that I collect. Thank you for taking a peek into my kitchen today.
I hope this post inspired you to help you in your transition into fall. Stay tuned this season for some of my favorite pumpkin baking goods.
