Simple Vintage Christmas DIY

Imagine being at an antique auction when an item comes up for bid for an old binder of over 400+ vintage postcards, all separated into sections by every holiday you can think of……

That was me just 2 years back. I tried to play cool, very cool, and won the auction, being the only bidder. Like how was I the only bidder?! Most all of the vintage postcards were dated around 1901 to about 1910. Plus they still had the original one cent colored green stamp on them and a few I found with red stamps, that added even more to the charm of these beautiful vintage cards! I really get lost in reading the back of these postcards as I try to imagine how life was for those earlier generations. Talk about being intentional. If you needed to get a message to someone you really had to plan a little ahead. So many of the notes end with a “please write back.” The mail system was the way of communication then. Fast forward to today………

I’m over here at the farmhouse decorating with them, with any idea that I have. As beautiful and so full of detail are the fronts of the postcards, I love to also showcase the backside. There’s even just as much charm on the back as the front. Here I just sprinkle them around propped up with other decor using a vintage clothespin.

You can also string them on a little jute rope with the old clothespins too. It’s a vey simple DIY to make a little garland with so much charm of yesteryear.

I also added them onto this picture hanging garland that I picked up from Target last year. Yet, instead of pictures, I used the backside of the vintage postcards in my entry.

So the next time you go antiquing keep your eye out for the vintage postcards. They now cost about a few dollars each but some can get pretty pricey. I will be on the hunt for postcards with the red stamp on the back to add to my collection.
